We say without hesitation that everyone would like to see sales double. Coming to that conclusion is the easy part. The hard part is figuring out how to bring that dream to fruition. Well, that’s why we’re here. Today, we’re going to look at 4 strategies to double your sales and grow your company by leaps and bounds.
Long-Term Marketing
Marketing is something that, when done properly, can lead to exponential growth for your company. There are multiple routes you can take:
- Content Marketing – If you’re in an industry that requires a level of knowledge or expertise, consider content marketing. Content marketing is the intersection of blogging, social media marketing, and search engine optimization. Successful content marketing campaigns can lead to significant amounts of increased traffic and revenue. Be forewarned, though: it’s usually not an overnight success. Build for the future.NOTE: It’s not enough to simply drive traffic to your website. You should focus on improving conversion rates through constant testing. As Brian Eisenberg says, Always Be Testing! Even incremental improvements add up significantly over time.
- Social Media Marketing – Many companies focus solely on social media marketing. This requires creativity, an understanding of proper customer service techniques, and vigilance! However, it can also be a major boost to your online presence. Lay’s Potato Chips, for instance, started a “Do Us a Flavor” campaign which asked their social media followers to submit chip flavor ideas. The result? This already massive, well-established company tripled their online followers and increased sales by 12% nationwide … from one campaign! No matter what other strategies you use, focus on developing (or hiring) a top-notch marketing team.
Diversify Your Product Line
There’s an old saying about not having all of your eggs in one basket. Well, maybe you should consider diversifying your product line into a related field. Last week, we walked about Hobie and their extensive range of water sports products (sailboats, paddle boards, and kayaks – all from a company that started off selling surfboards from a single shop). Can you copy that idea in your field? Is there some way to branch beyond your current product line?
Improve an Existing Product
Keeping with the Hobie example, they recently announced a revolutionary new paddle board: a pedal paddle board with handlebars. This new product adds a fun twist to an already-existing product. It probably didn’t require extensive retooling of their facilities. Rather, they simple drilled a new cutout in their boards, put in a pedal system and handlebars, and sent it out to an excited public. Look at your existing product line. How can you take your current product and turn it into something revolutionary?
Customer Service
Always, always, always stress customer service within your organization. The world is teeming with companies – and your field probably is, too. People want to work with companies who care about their well being. One way to drastically improve sales is through providing top-notch customer service, which leads to sterling word-of-mouth promotion from your adoring customers. The following shocking stats come from online marketers WordStream:
- 92% of people trust word of mouth from family and friends more than any other form of advertising
- 20-50% of purchases are the result of word of mouth recommendations
- 70% of consumers read online reviews
- 81% of customers are influenced by their friends’ social media posts
Conversely, poor word of mouth can sink an organization (or, at the very least, drastically affect sales negatively). Would you buy from an organization that treated your family or friends poorly?
